ASHRAE sets the standards
Modern architecture building

ASHRAE Mission: To serve humanity by advancing the arts and sciences of heating, ventilation, air conditioning, refrigeration and their allied fields.

ASHRAE Vision: A healthy and sustainable built environment for all.

COMPLIANCE

Clean Air Associates ASHRAE compliance standards
Standard 62.1 Ventilation for Acceptable Air Quality was first published in 1973

The IAQP

Standard 62.1

ASHRAE (American Society of Heating Refrigerating and Air Conditioning Engineers)

established Standard 62.1 - Ventilation for Acceptable Air Quality

This standard governs ventilation rates needed in various environments, offices, schools, casinos, etc

ASHRAE researches and develops standards with ANSI (American National Standards Institute). IMC (International Mechanical Code). IMC is the code compliance a project must conform to.

The IMC section which covers needed ventilation rates is Chapter 4 Section 403.

However - IMC is the code compliance a project must conform to.

HVAC design engineer calculations
HVAC design engineer calculations

The AtmosIQ software performs the calculations for the design engineer and he or she can include these right into their ventilation design.

Also, AtmosIQ is based on AtmosAir and our proven tested contaminant reduction ability

Clean Air Solutions Middle East Frequently Asked Questions

Q) Can the IAQ Procedure apply to a new design or retrofit?

A) Yes. In a new design first cost savings can be had due to equipment downsizing potential. In a retro-fit operational cost savings can be had due to the ability to re-circulate more already conditioned air.

Q) Can the IAQP be used with a DOAS (Dedicated Outside Air System)?

A) Yes. In a new design the IAQP can allow for possible downsizing of the DOAS unit due to lower OSA requirements. In a retro-fit this may be difficult as the DOAS airflow was typically designed to maintain a pressurization balance. Also, unless a VFD or some other control is integrated these systems airflow is not adjustable.

Q) Can the IAQP be used with 100% OSA systems?

A) Basically, the same answer as the DOAS answer.

Q) Is the IAQP enforceable?

A) No. The IAQP is an engineering standard developed by ASHRAE. IMC is the code compliancy that must be adhered to by the design engineer.

Q) Does the IAQP or IMC govern retro-fits?

A) No. Unless a renovation or mechanical upgrade or replacement is also occurring, purely applying the IAQP to an existing HVAC system to allow for reduced OSA does not require a sign off by a code official.
